REINCARNATION OF THE SAPI

In 2008 the studio conducted a collaborative workshop in Bali with local artisans, architects and craftsmen. The result was a unique floating sculpture made of 3 000 salvaged and hand-polished cow bones.

While the local religion worships the cow as a holy animal, visitors to the island and some ethnic groups still consume meat. Hence cow bones are abundant. Some are used for carving, but most are burned and made into glue.

This piece pays homage to cherishing the tradition of hand-carving whilst re-birthing the holy animal.
